      Unlike beauty pageants and playoff games, politics has no designated runner-up. No matter how capable the candidate, how well-run the campaign, or how close the race, only one person is ultimately declared and recognized as the victor. One of the biggest challenges in running for office is the knowledge that you can lose despite your best efforts. This possibility sidelines some people before they get in the starting block, whereas for others it is a mere side note. Here is what I know for sure: winning an election is not the only possible positive outcome. A loss is a cleverly disguised crucible for self-discovery and discernment, as illustrated by these 4 nurse exemplars.
