- •In an era of increased virtual education and multiple challenges to develop traditional face-to-face professional networks, social media can be used as an educational and networking platform.
- •Social media allows for nurse practitioner students across the country and potentially around the globe to collaborate in microlearning educational events.
Abstract
As the number of online acute care pediatric nurse practitioner programs increases,
exploration of creative methods to enhance scholarly engagement and develop a professional
network among students is imperative. This report describes the use of the Twitter
platform to connect students and faculty from 4 acute care pediatric nurse practitioner
programs through an online journal club. Student evaluation of this assignment demonstrated
attainment of learning objectives and a positive assessment of this novel andragogical
approach. Social media platforms can be used to enhance networking and scholarly collaboration.
Expansion to include additional schools and topics is planned.
