Teaching Consideration: Calling Clinical Practice Experts

      As a nurse practitioner (NP) student, I remember asking my only physician preceptor, widely respected, why he accepted NP students knowing he did not receive monetary compensation. He responded with his own question: “What is the first-line treatment for polycystic ovarian syndrome?” “Weight loss,” I answered. He smiled and said, “That’s why. Most residents I ask say metformin.”
