Highlights
- •Essential thrombocythemia is a rare myeloproliferative disease
- •This article reviews implications for the primary care provider and treatment regimens.
Abstract
Essential thrombocythemia, a myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN), causes excessive clonal
platelet production of poorly formed platelets. Medical management includes treatment
to reduce symptoms and exacerbations of thrombosis and hemorrhage. Care in the primary
care setting includes awareness, diagnosis, and co-management for this complicated
disease.
