Abstract
Although attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most prevalent neuropsychiatric
disorder of childhood, this disorder continues to be underrecognized. ADHD is a disabling
disorder associated with a deleterious effect on individual and family functioning.
Diagnosis and treatment are required to avoid often detrimental consequences of untreated
ADHD. Although ADHD exists in similar rates across cultures, health care disparities
exist related to diagnosis and treatment. Despite improved policies in recent years
aimed at closing the gaps in care, this problem continues. There is a significant
need to ask why and consider the following question: Is it time to look in the mirror?
